The city of Whiting is located roughly 7 miles East of 75 hwy. The town was founded in 1866 and named after Mrs. Martha S Whiting, the second wife of Senator Samuel C Pomeroy. The first Post office in town was established in June 1869. The Central Branch Union Pacific Railroad traveled through Whiting and a Caboose still remains displayed to this day among several other historical buildings throughout the town.
